Excited for the inaugural septin paper by our Drexel colleague and collaborator Shae Padrick. The preprint entitled "Production and analysis of a mammalian septin hetero-octamer complex" is now available on BioRxiv, and describes a new purification scheme for the preparation of SEPT2/6/7/3 complexes. In addition, it shows that SEPT3 occupies the central position in the hetero-octamer.

We're on a streak of good news! Elias found that his application for a Drexel CURE grant from the PA Department of Health was selected for funding. The proposal is on Megan's neurite project – thank you and congrats Megan! - and in collaboration with Kazu Toyooka from the department of Neurobiology and Anatomy, and Lin Han from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems. The project is slated to begin in the summer of 2020.

Congrats Dr. Karasmanis! Eva has successfully defended her PhD. She's moving on to a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Sam Reck-Peterson (UCSD/HHMI). Eva's graduating with a total of eight publications including first author research papers in Developmental Cell, Current Biology and Molecular Biology of the Cell. A total rock star, who will be sorely missed!

We're hosting Shirin Bahmanyar from Yale University Catch Dr. Bahmanyar's seminar "ER size and shape and its role in nuclear envelope dynamics" in PISB 104 at 3:30 pm. Shirin and Elias go back to their beginnings as a grad student and post-doc, respectively, in James Nelson's lab at Stanford in the early 2000s.
